Privacy & Cookies Policy
Last updated: 22 August 2026
The short version. We collect what you send us through the enquiry form, or tell us on the phone, so that we can quote for your job and carry out the hire. We do not sell your details, we do not send marketing emails, and the only cookies this site sets are Google advertising cookies — which stay switched off unless you accept them.

1. Who is responsible for your data
Cherry Picker Hire Ltd is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. We are registered in England and Wales under company number 14669423, with our registered office at 33 Sycamore Grove, Trowbridge, Wiltshire, BA14 0JB.
For anything to do with your personal information — questions, requests or complaints — contact us at info@cherrypickerhire.me or on 07473 841141, or write to us at the address above.
We are a small business and do not have a statutory Data Protection Officer. Enquiries are handled by the company directors.
2. What we collect
When you send us an enquiry
The enquiry form on this site asks for:
- Your name, email address and telephone number — required, so that we can reply to you.
- The address of the site where the work is to be done — optional. Every part of it (street, town, county, postcode) can be left blank, though giving it lets us price the journey accurately.
- Details of the hire — half day or full day, the slot you would prefer, your preferred date, and your description of the job.
- Photographs of the job — optional; see section 4.
- Your confirmation that we may use these details to reply to you.
We also record the IP address the enquiry was sent from, and include it in the email we receive. We use it only to trace and block abuse of the form.
When you contact us in other ways
If you call, email, text or message us, we hold whatever you choose to tell us, together with your phone number or email address and a record of the conversation where we need one to do the job.
When you simply visit the site
Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs. These typically record the IP address of the visitor, the date and time, the pages requested and the browser used. They are generated automatically by the web server, are used for security and technical diagnostics, and are not linked by us to any individual.
The site itself does not set any cookies of its own, does not use website analytics, and does not track you across other websites. The one exception is Google advertising, covered in section 9.
What we never ask for
We never ask for payment card or bank details through this website, and you should not send them to us by email. If anyone asks you to, it is not us. The whole site runs over an encrypted HTTPS connection.
3. Why we use it, and our lawful basis
Under the UK GDPR we must have a lawful basis for using your personal information. Ours are set out below.
| What we do | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Reply to your enquiry, prepare a quotation and agree a date | Steps taken at your request before entering into a contract (Article 6(1)(b)) |
| Carry out the hire — plan the job, get the machine and operator to your site, invoice you | Performance of our contract with you (Article 6(1)(b)) |
| Keep accounting and tax records, and records required for health and safety | Legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c)) |
| Keep the enquiry form working and free from spam — including recording the sending IP address and limiting how often the form can be used | Our legitimate interests in protecting our systems and our inbox (Article 6(1)(f)) |
| Deal with a complaint, an insurance claim or a legal dispute | Our legitimate interests in defending our position, and establishing or defending legal claims (Article 6(1)(f)) |
| Measure the effectiveness of our Google Ads advertising | Your consent (Article 6(1)(a)), given through the cookie banner and withdrawable at any time |
We do not send marketing emails or newsletters, and we do not add enquirers to any mailing list. If we ever start, we will ask you first.
4. Photographs you send us
You can attach photographs of the job to your enquiry. They are genuinely useful — they let us judge the height, the access and the ground before we arrive.
Your photographs are not stored on this website. There is no folder of customer photographs on our hosting, and no web address that anyone could use to reach one. They reach us as attachments in our email inbox and are kept with your enquiry — see section 7.
- Photographs of a property, and any people or vehicles that happen to be in shot, may themselves be personal data. Please avoid including people where you can, and do not send photographs of anyone else’s property without their agreement.
- Photographs may carry hidden data such as the location where they were taken. We do not use it, but it travels with the file.
- We use your photographs only to quote for and plan your job. We will not publish them in our gallery, on social media or anywhere else without asking you first.
5. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing.
We share it only with the following, and only so far as each needs it:
- Zenbox sp. z o.o. — our website hosting and email provider. Your enquiry is processed on their web server and delivered to our mailbox, which is also hosted by them, so your message and any photographs are stored on their systems.
- Google Ireland Limited — if, and only if, you accept advertising cookies. Google then tells us how our adverts perform. See section 9.
- Our accountant — invoices and payment records, for bookkeeping and tax.
- Our insurers, brokers and, if it ever proves necessary, our legal advisers — where there is an incident, a claim or a dispute connected with a hire.
- Public authorities — such as HMRC or the Health and Safety Executive, where we are required by law to provide information.
6. Where your data is held
Our website and email are hosted by Zenbox, whose servers are located in Poznań, Poland. Poland is in the European Economic Area, which the UK Government has formally recognised as providing an adequate level of protection for personal data, so no additional safeguard is required for that transfer.
If you accept advertising cookies, data associated with them may be processed by Google outside the UK and the EEA. Google states that it relies on the UK International Data Transfer Addendum and the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses for those transfers.
7. How long we keep it
| What | How long | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Enquiries that do not lead to a booking | 24 months from your last contact with us | People often come back the following season, and it lets us pick up where we left off |
| Records of completed hires, including invoices | 6 years from the end of the hire | The limitation period for contract claims in England and Wales, and HMRC’s record-keeping requirements |
| Photographs you sent with an enquiry | Deleted with the enquiry or the job record they belong to | They are kept only as part of the enquiry |
| Records connected with an accident, incident or insurance claim | As long as our insurers require, which may be longer | Claims involving injury can be brought years afterwards |
| Server logs | For the period our hosting provider retains them, which is short | Security and technical diagnostics |
When a retention period ends we delete the information or, where deletion is not immediately practical, put it beyond use.
8. Your rights
Under the UK GDPR you have the right to:
- be told how we use your information — that is what this page is for;
- get a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- have it corrected if it is wrong or incomplete;
- have it erased, where we have no continuing reason to keep it;
- restrict how we use it while a question about it is resolved;
- object to us using it where we rely on legitimate interests;
- receive it in a portable format, where we rely on your consent or on a contract and process it by computer; and
- withdraw your consent at any time, where consent is what we rely on. Withdrawing it does not affect anything done beforehand.
To use any of these rights, email info@cherrypickerhire.me or write to us at the address in section 1. We will respond within one month. There is no charge unless a request is manifestly unfounded or excessive.
We may ask you to confirm your identity first, so that we do not disclose someone’s details to the wrong person.
9. Cookies
A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to store. This site keeps its use of them to a minimum.
Nothing is set until you choose
When you first arrive, a banner asks whether you accept advertising cookies. Until you accept, Google’s advertising cookies are switched off — we use Google Consent Mode, which tells Google to hold back storage until consent is given. If you decline, they stay off.
What is set, and when
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
cph_consent |
This website (stored in your browser, not a cookie sent to our server) | Remembers your answer to the cookie banner so we do not ask again. Strictly necessary, so no consent is needed for it. | Until you clear your browser data |
_gcl_au and other Google advertising cookies |
Google — only after you accept | Lets Google tell us which adverts led to an enquiry, so we do not waste money advertising to the wrong people | Typically up to 90 days; some Google cookies last longer |
We do not use website analytics, heatmaps, session recording, social media pixels or live chat, none of which set anything on this site.
Changing your mind
You can withdraw your consent at any time by clearing this website’s data in your browser, which removes your saved answer and brings the banner back. You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings, or use its private browsing mode. Blocking them will not stop any part of this website from working.
Google explains what it does with advertising data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
10. Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, please tell us first — email info@cherrypickerhire.me and we will look into it.
You also have the right to complain to the UK’s data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office. Their current contact details and the complaints process are at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint. Complaining to us first does not affect that right.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our business or the law changes. The version on this page is always the current one, and the date at the top shows when it last changed.
This policy explains how we handle personal information. The rules for using the website itself are in our Website Terms of Use.
